The Abstract: Issue 3

The newest issue of The Abstract, the official magazine of the ILN+ programme, has been published! Now in its third edition, this release showcases the groundbreaking progress of the Researchers in Residence projects funded in Tranche 3—covering pioneering work across Healthcare & Wellbeing, Resilience, and Net Zero.

From cutting-edge medical diagnostics and satellite resilience to the future of green hydrogen, each story in this issue reflects the power of collaboration between UK universities and the Catapult Network via the Researcher in Residence programme. Nothing exemplifies this more than the joint feature interview with RiR Paul Howard-Jones from the University of Bristol and Rebecca Wilkes from Energy Systems Catapult, where both provide an interesting perspective of the lack of uptake in new energy systems such as EVs and heat pumps.

Editor Paul Stimpson also catches up with Commercialisation Manager Fer Velazquez from the University of Sheffield in a discussion about how researchers take their work from the lab and turn it into a spin off company and how the unique offering the University of Sheffield brings to the table.

Whether you’re curious about cross-sector innovation or looking to discover new applications for emerging technologies, The Abstract offers a window into the future being built across the UK today.
