Satellite Applications Catapult

satellites in space

Satellite Applications Catapult’s activities within the three key themes of the Network:

Net Zero

  • Sustainable finance and asset level data: Mainstreaming sustainable/spatial finance into decision making
  • Net Zero space coalition: Creating guidelines to accelerate the transition to Net Zero through space technology
  • Natural capital: Bringing together Earth Observation (EO) and AI capabilities for assessment of carbon sequestration at scale
  • Agri living lab: To develop, demonstrate and test agri-tech solutions, particularly using connectivity, EO and position, navigation and timing PNT)
  • Zero deforestation commodity supply chains: Use digital technology solutions to create a resilient food supply chain

Healthcare and Wellbeing

  • Healthy living lab: To develop solutions to address social wellbeing challenges of the health system in the UK, including hybrid satellite and terrestrial backhaul connectivity
  • AI institute for planet earth: For planetary scale applications of AI and geospatial data science to one health challenges
  • Microgravity applications: Understand the needs for testing processes and services in the microgravity environment

Resilience

  • UK PNT: Delivery of PNT services from OneWeb constellation
  • Hybrid connectivity: Hybrid satellite and terrestrial backhaul connectivity solutions
  • Rural connectivity: Address poor connectivity in remote areas with Open RAN
  • 6G: Advance 6G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) systems and standards
  • Synthetic aperture communications: Deliver high-capacity data services when devices do not have direct line-of-sight towards satellites
  • Antenna development, integration and testing, particularly for connected vehicles
  • Multi-static SAR constellations: For resilient infrastructure monitoring
  • Digital Twin: Integration of EO into Digital Twin activities
  • Future of flight: Ensure drone services within the UK transport ecosystem can be carried out safely, efficiently, and environmentally concious
  • In-orbit Services and Manufacturing (IOSM)
  • Space clusters: Delivering against the levelling-up agenda, building a resilient post-COVID space economy
  • Managing environmental risks from mining: Space monitoring activities, enabling a reduction of risk of environmental disasters and loss of life
